I've heard of this too and it is a Windows error, doesn't happen often.
Sometimes Windows will mess up the coordinates of where a window is
supposed to be and assign values that are outside the boundaries of the
screen. It effectively tries to paint the window in an area your monitor
cannot display. If that "window" gets the focus in Windows it can appear
that any program has frozen. Especially bad if the missing window will
not give up the focus when you click on the windows you can see, all you
get is a BEEP. Because Legacy uses so many windows when operating it may
be more prone than most programs to this effect.
Dave's Alt-Space is a windows keyboard shortcut that brings up a menu
for the current window (i.e. the one that has Windows focus) if you hit
alt space then M you will invoke the move command. The difficulty is we
have no idea where this missing screen is in relation to the monitor
display space. So moving the screen to make it visible is a hit-or-miss
affair.
I don't know if this would work but "alt-space x" Maximizes a screen and
might get windows to correct its coordinates when it redraws the screen
to fill the monitor, it might just make the missing screen bigger in
place. One thing it will do is make it easier to see as we blindly move
the screen up down left and right in the off-monitor hyperspace. I just
wish there was a window command to centre the window. That would force
Windows to recalculate the location and bring it back on-screen. Another
windows keyboard shortcut is Alt-F4 to close the active window. When we
have apparent lock-ups when a new window is supposed to have opened that
might be something to try. If the window did open but is not on screen
closing it should return the focus to the Legacy screen that called it
and normal operation can resume. Next time we try to open the same
window the coordinates will "probably" be in the on-screen space.

Dave,
Do you have dual monitors?? This is the first I've heard of the window off
to the side. Generally a complete uninstall and reinstall solves the
problem. Maybe Liz could try deleting the Legacy2.usr file from the main
Legacy folder and then seeing if that solves the problem - would you do that
please Liz?
Thanks for using Legacy.

I recently had a problem with Legacy apparently freezing and the problem
(solved by Ken McGinnis) was a window that was off-screen.
So what could be happening is that your Name List window is opening
off-screen and taking the focus away from the windows that you see.
Try this . . . click on the Name List icon, then hold down the Alt key and
press the space bar. If a menu appears click on Move and use the cursor
keys to bring the Name List window back onto your screen.
If a menu doesn't appear, press the M key and see if your mouse pointer
changes to a 4-pointed cross. If so then use the cursor keys to bring the
Name List back onto your screen.
If this doesn't work . . . . well we tried!
