I don't think that you can make them darker.  If they are unused, they
are black and white.  They are given other colors when they are used, in
other words if the person has events, pictures or sources attached.

    OK guys and gals, I bit the bullet again and reinstalled 
version 6 deluxe. I still don't like the new icons but will live 
with them if necessary.  After trying to find old postings about 
the V6 icons and how to change them, I have just given up. 
PLEASE, I need the colors of the 'used icons' darker than the 
'non-used icons'. I have been to 'customize-colors' and cannot 
see how to make them darker. Could someone give me step by step 
directions on how to do this?
    Must be all this beautiful weather here that has my head 
be-fuddled.
