I should have mentioned that the single biggest advantage is that it doesn't require us to supply a definition of what "geocoding" actually is. Trying to nail that down in a general and future proof way has been one of the larger roadblocks. Just imagine when OSM doesn't just have address data for everything, but it is attached to the corresponding entrance of office (indoor mapping). Simon
