Wow, that's huge. no not really. if they implement an interoperable version, then so what? in fact, google has already done that on a vast number of pre-existing software libre packages (and earned a very dim reputation in the software libre community as a result). for their own stupid reasons google stupidly made copies of at least busybox, i believe they also made a copy of glibc and many many other packages, *entirely* reimplementing them _just_ so that they could satisfy pathetic whining companies who were oooo so scaaaared of the GPL when distributing android .[.. and then hypocritically *didn't* re-implement the linux kernel, leaving massive numbers of manufacturers with the false impression that android *and* the linux kernel it runs on are both entirely Apache Licensed... but that is another story ]. anyway.... yes, google has *already* re-implemented a huge number of GPL'd and LGPL'd APIs entirely as Apache-licensed software, and despite it being a hypocritical decision nobody has blinked because they are perfectly within their legal rights to do so. l.
