I'm not sure if this is the solution to both your problems, but this might help. There is some limitation in the JMF code that means that you can only access one camera from a given JVM instance. I had some great ideas for using two LEGO cameras to do some stereo vision things, but couldn't get round this problem. The only way to do it was to use two separate JVMs, but this was such a long time ago that I can't remember how I got each JVM to see a different camera.

To check this out try only connecting one camera to your system (the one that doesn't work) and see if the jmfinit program will pick it up after a reboot.
