I can't speak to your particular question re: leJOS for NXT, but as for any inherent PowerPC vs. Intel-ism in leJOS, I had virtually no problems getting leJOS 2.1 to work just fine on a dual-core 15" MacBook Pro running Mac OS X 10.4.6 -- compile and install was totally painless and the system has worked reliably ever since.
