Karl There was a discussion on this about a month ago. I have not tried this myself but we do have these IR to RF converters here for controlling a TV system in one room from another.
The only issue I see as a "show stopper" (will not work) is these devices are uni-directional (they only work one way). One unit is the Transmitter and the other is the receiver. The communications required for the Lejos has to be bi-directional (each end needs to be a receiver and transmitter).
