Friends,
I inherited a flat panel iMac 15", sometimes referred to as a "lamp
shade" model (1 GHz, G4, 256MB). I was upgrading the OS to the latest
version of Tiger, using the downloaded combo updater, when I
accidently switched off the power strip. From that point on, the
screen has stayed black. The computer starts up just fine and I can
use it with an external monitor that I borrowed from my daughter's
setup. But I can't use that permanently.

Using the external monitor, I wiped the hard drive and started over
again installing Tiger, then the combo updater again. But nothing I
do seems to get the original screen to light up. Anyone else had to
deal with this problem in the past?

When I started it up tonight, sort of checking to see if it had
healed itself (yeah, right), it still didn't light, so I borrowed the
monitor from my daughter again and I noticed that the clock had
reverted to 1969, therefore the logic board (PRAM?) battery must be
dead. Could the monitor problem be something as simple as replacing
that battery?

Thanks, in advance, for any advice or suggestions.
Cheers,
John
