Hi swappers I have a Radeon 9800 Pro that started life as a PC card and has been "converted" to a Mac compatible card. Card has issues, so I would not recommend it to anyone looking to a perfect solution, however it may be good for a cheap upgrade for an old AGP Power Mac.
Issues: 1) card has been modified to boot in a AGP4X slot on a Power Mac which means that two resistors have been removed from the card and it quite possibly would mean that it will not work in a G5 AGP8X slot. 2) card was flashed with custom firmware, I can confirm that both DVI and VGA ports work, it will do mirror and extended desktop, but the quality on VGA appears bit lower then on DVI (that may be actually normal, but I have ot mention it). 3) the DVI output works fine, but on ocassion when you cold boot the Mac it will show some additional lines on the screen, the only way to fix it, is to restart again. When mac wakes up from sleep, DVI output flickers a bit, it get's rtesolved by either a reboot or flip of refresh rate from 75 to 60 and back. 4) I have a third party heatsink on it with the heat pipe, it made the card run very cool and quiet, but it does take up space for first two PCI slots in my QS, would not work in MDD, however I do have original heatsink that I can swap the custom for if you want to use it in MDD Please understand that although card works, I consider it a spare or test card at best, and that's why the price of 30$ USD plush shipping is set on this card. I would consider a trade of a original ATI or Nvidia for Mac providing support for dual display and min 32 MB RAM. I can send pics to those interested.
