After many years of good service, I have decided it is time to finally
say goodbye to my Pismo. It went from main computer to multimedia
computer to emergency backup computer to sadly underused space-taker.
Better that it finds a new home. US$500 obo, plus shipping.

Specs
*Daystar 550 Mhz 7410 G4, installed 2004 with new logic board
*RAM maxed out at 1 GB
*Screen replaced in 2006 with a bright, glossy LCD from AG Parts (with
new AirPort antenna)
*AirPort card installed
*10 GB hard drive, wiped, without system or install disks. I would be
happy to give you the original install disks, but they sit in a box in
California and I sit in Japan. Last OS used: Tiger 10.4.11, which ran
beautifully.
*Slot-loading CDRW/DVD drive (24x10x24x) from MCE Tech, installed 2003
*Battery Tech Li-Ion battery, added 2004. Still getting something
like 1.5 hours out of it with reasonable use as recently as this
spring.
*Sound/power board replaced around 2006.

Quirks
*Processor runs a little hot, so the fan runs more often than it did
with the original chip (which was almost never). Daystar's current
7410LE chips probably run cooler--oh well, I was an early adopter.
*DVDs/CDs need to be inserted with care as the little hairbrush
cleaner thingie (sorry for the jargon) on the slot has always seemed a
little loose.
*When booting from a disk, the drive usually pops the disk out on
startup. Just reinsert immediately--the drive does recognize who is
boss.
*Original feet long gone, replaced by little plastic nubby things
(more jargon!) that fill in nicely.

Icing on the Cake
*Also included are a couple of CDs with a Pismo take-apart manual from
PowerBook Medics (PDF), the Panther and Tiger versions of the Daystar
control software (not sure about Leopard support), and a few other
useful files.
*Also a spare AC adapter--the original YoYo(tm) adapter is still just
fine, but I picked up a brick-style spare along the way.
*But wait, there's more! You also get a 2-port USB 2.0 PCMCIA card
from ADS Tech.
*Shipping with the original S-Video-to-Video and VGA adapters, the
original "Welcome to PowerBook" manual, and I'm throwing in a Targus
laptop sleeve, too.

US$500 obo, plus shipping (expect $50 to $90, depending on desired
speed, to the U.S. and most other Pacific Rim locations). Paypal,
please. Other than the scuffs expected with a nine-year old laptop,
this Pismo is in good shape. Why, it even still has the flap that
covers all the rear ports that so many Pismo users lose or break! If
by some unusual chance you are actually in Japan or will be passing
through Tokyo, we can discuss other payment and delivery options.
