This adapter allows you to fit a 2.5" SATA drive (SSD's as well) in a computer/slot that just takes 3.5" drives. I used this for a while with an 2.5" SSD in one of my Mac Pro's main drive bays. Works perfectly, just don't need it any more due to some shuffling around of drives that I'm doing.
