Hello swappers,
I have some free networking gear (free for actual shipping):
1. 3Com ISDN Modem model #3C892A. This is a must if you live where there is
no internet (except perhaps costly satellite) and you just have POTS twisted
pair to the home. It worked great, obviously is capped at 128 KBPS (2D plus 1B
channel bonded). If you've got phone service, you can get ISDN (although the
phone company may have to replace any legacy signal boosters, etc...but as a
public utility they have to do this if you hound them). Originally cost nearly
$300.
If you have to use an IPSEC VPN from a rural location, this'll be faster (and
cheaper) than satellite, which handles VPN poorly: Satellite normally
pre-loads the page/file data and sends giant transmit packets (process called
"acceleration" on the satellite sites), but this process can't predict what to
load next under VPN when every packet is encrypted.
2. Cisco 675 DSL modem, for DSL connection obviously.
Both in original boxes and accessories with documentation, etc. Both work fine
with Mac (are platform agnostic network routers). The Cisco might fit into a
flat rate box. So would the 3Com if I took it out of the original packaging.
Moving back to SLC, want to avoid taking them. Please reply to this email if
you want them; I'll figure out shipping and send you my PalPay address
privately.
Best regards,Mike LincolnAnn Arbor, MI 48108
