This is the original 40GB model of the Apple TV. The 1st gen AppleTV has 2 nice features that the newer models lack:
1. It can be connected with component video cables as well as HDMI. More flexibility there. 2. You can sync/store 40GB of media (movies, music, etc) on the device, so you don't have to stream everything from your Mac. This AppleTV works great, and is in great condition.
