Hello,

I'm looking for a tested, known-good hard drive for a PowerBook Pismo. By
"known-good," I mean a drive that has actually undergone testing for errors and
bad blocks as opposed to a "working pull" that hasn't been tested. In short, I
need a reliable ATA-5/Ultra ATA-66-compliant drive or an ATA-6 or an
ATA-7/Ultra ATA-133 drive that is known to work in a Pismo.

As far as capacity goes, while I'd prefer something 60GB or larger, I'll settle
for a 40GB hard drive if you've got one. However, 40GB is definitely the lower
limit.

If someone has a ready-to-install kit (i.e. I don't need any additional parts
to make it work in a Pismo) for an SSD, I'd be happy to take a look at that,
too. Please let me know the capacity of the SSD you're offering.

While I'm at it: if you happen to have a Pismo to offer, I might be interested
in picking up a spare unit. The catch? I can only use a 500MHz model with a
bright, clear LCD (i.e. no pink screen upon startup). The hinges must be still
be tight and all ports must be known to work (though I don't particularly care
about the modem port). Long story short, I need something I can easily eke
another year or three out of. If you have such a machine, please shoot me an
email with the specifications and the cosmetic condition. Likewise, if you
have a solid but bare-bones unit, please tell me what I'll need to install in
order to have a working machine.

Standard disclaimers, shipping info, and whatnot are below.

Please let me know your asking price and the cost of shipping (cheap and slow
shipping is fine for this). Shipping will be to zip 95132 (CA, SF Bay Area/San
Jose). Despite repeated pleadings, my mailman continues to handle my mail as
though it's some sort of personal affront, so I need this well-packed and
shipped in a cardboard box, please. In fact, the Small Flat Rate Priority Mail
box (the one about the size of an old VHS cassette) would be perfect. Of
course, if you want to ship the drive to me Parcel Post (or FedEx Ground)
that's fine, too, just so long as it's shipped in a cardboard box.

I can pay via PayPal or personal check, seeing as how PayPal is anathema to
some folks. If you take Paypal, please be sure to tell me if you have the
ability to accept both balance transfer and credit card-funded payments, or
only the former. If you prefer a check, I understand that the check will need
to clear before the drive is shipped and am happy to allow more time for that.
However, in the interests of getting this thing underway sooner rather than
later, it's only fair to mention that folks who accept PayPal will likely take
precedence over those who don't.

Thank you for reading.

Best,

James Fraser
