For sale is a 2008 8-core Mac Pro with some stability issues. 60 percent of the time, it works every time.
Tech Specs: - 3.0 GHz Intel Xeon Quad-Core (x2) E5472 Harpertown - 8 GB RAM (4x 2GB) - 120 GB OWC SSD (SATA II) - 1 TB WD Green HDD - AMD Radeon HD4870 Details about the stability issues: I'm pretty sure the Mac Pro is sentient and spiteful. It will occasionally crash--fans power up to maximum speed and the computer no longer recognizes the graphics card as being connected. Leaving it unplugged for awhile and then plugging everything back in fixes the issue. The problem seems to be with either the logic board itself, or with the power supply. I don't have enough spare parts or time to swap those parts out and see what is actually causing the issue. What makes it sentient and spiteful is that every time I remark about its recent stability, not 30 minutes later it crashes. These crashes persist in Mac OS X and in Windows. They can come hours or months apart. All hardware other than the logic board and power supply is new, has been checked out, and is fully functional. Cosmetically, on the outside, it's about a 7/10. There's some minor scratches, but no major dings or anything. Inside, it's missing two of the four drive bay holders, and the SATA connector for drive bay two is bent. I don't think it's broken--it's the metal piece that's bent, rather than anything with the actual PCB. The CPU heatsink for the second CPU is from a 2006 Mac Pro and has been cut slightly to fit. This would make a great project machine for someone who is less frustrated with it than I am. Asking $500 (or best offer--if you think my price is too high, please make an offer) shipped, packed, and insured CONUS via UPS. Payment via PayPal is highly preferred.
