Back in January I bought two as-is Power Mac G5s off Craigslist with plans
of restoration. Both are mid-2004 dual 2.5ghz models with the
notorious liquid cooling system. Both had cooling system leaks at some
point, resulting in corrosion/rust (mostly if not entirely confined to the
power supply areas). I tried a few things but gave up on them when other
projects came along, now they are just taking up space.

The first machine is almost complete except for RAM and hard drive. When I
first got them I cleaned out all the corrosion and rust and bought a
replacement power supply, but the computer would just try to boot and die
after a few seconds (it looks like I bought the wrong kind of power supply
and the one I should have gotten is a different voltage, but I don't know
if that was the only problem keeping the computer from starting up).
Unfortunately when I reassembled it and put it into storage I forgot to put
back the plastic mat that sits under the liquid cooling system, so the
corrosion/rust came back even worse than before. I believe this power
supply is likely dead too, I'll try to remove it and clean any corrosion
from the case but there is a stripped screw in the power supply cover so I
haven't been able to do that yet.

Apart from that the corrosion/rust seems to be confined to the power supply
area, the rest of the parts look great. The liquid cooling system assembly
and both processors appear to be free of corrosion, but I'm unable to test
the computer and I haven't done a thorough inspection/disassembly so
I don't know if the processors still work. The logic board also looks good,
with little to no visible corrosion (all I can see is some discoloration on
the metal covering the modem jack, nothing on the board itself), but I
haven't removed it and inspected it up close so I can't say for sure.
Everything else is in great condition. The case says that it came with a
Radeon 9600XT graphics card, but there isn't a make/model on the card
itself so I don't know what it is for sure (I assume it's an original Apple
card, as it has both DVI and ADC connectors). All fans work, there is
little to no dust anywhere, all screws are accounted for (including both
sets of hard drive screws), and there is no rust/corrosion visible from the
outside.

The second machine is completely disassembled but mostly complete. The case
has some corrosion stains in the bottom as well as a few broken logic board
mounts, so it probably wouldn't be suitable for restoration but might make
a good Hackintosh case or art project. The door and internal clear plastic
cover are missing. The logic board looks good with no apparent corrosion,
but I'm unable to test it. The processor chips and liquid cooling system
have corrosion, so I doubt those could be brought back to life, but there
are probably a few usable parts in there. The rest of the parts are all in
great condition. All fans, brackets for hard drives and optical
drive, internal cables, various plastic pieces, and most of the screws are
present. This one has no optical drive, hard drive, RAM, or graphics card.

I'm hoping to get $50 for everything, but I'm definitely open to offers. I
can also throw in all three power supplies if you want them, but they are
so rusted that they are probably beyond repair. I doubt that shipping costs
would be worth it, so I'm mainly looking to sell this lot locally in or
around the southwest side of Houston. I may also be interested in a trade,
let me know what you have. If you have any questions or want to see
pictures, please feel free to ask.
