A late 2015 27-inch Retina iMac, purchased new in March of 2017. Running
Catalina.

A few months ago the original fusion drive sounded like it was failing and
I was too busy to replace it (it’s quite a process, as many of you likely
know). I purchased a new iMac instead. I recently replaced the drive with a
new 2TB SSD (OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G) that’s significantly faster. I
thought I might keep it or I wouldn't have gone with such a big drive, but
I'm sure as heck not doing that 2-hour iMac surgery again to retrieve the
$500 upgrade.

In addition to the new SSD there’s also:

24 GB of RAM
A practically unused bluetooth keyboard (stuck with my plugged extended for
the most part)
A new Magic Trackpad 2 (got it with the new iMac and prefer the mouse)
a matching brushed metal 2TB external drive (only USB-2, but fine for
backups)
Original box

asking $1,600 OBO.

I'd prefer not to ship it, and would deliver without 50 miles of my
location in Western Mass, but if someone wants to pay the shipping and
insurance, I can send it out in the same padded box my new one came in.

I know that’s near the same price as an entry-level 2019 model, but this
machine is not entry level. The screen is flawless, it’s in perfect
cosmetic condition, and it's FAST. Single-Core Benchmark tests of my new
one show that for the majority of tasks it’s only 15% faster. I honestly
can’t tell the difference for most things. This baby still has a lot of
years of service left in her.
