This laptop is ideal for a serious collector, or I suppose anyone who just wants to enjoy the G3 iBook experience.
I’m the second owner. I bought it in 2005. It showed minimal sign of use then and the same is true today. The first thing I did was to place kapton tape across the screen bumpers and the feet. They are still like new. About two years ago I took it apart to apply graphite into the screen hinges. iBook screen hinges are notorious for becoming stiff with age. Kinda like me. So I decided to be pro-active and lubricate the hinges. When taking the laptop apart I realized it had never been dismantled before. There were no finger prints or oils on the shields or anywhere else. Factory kapton tape was undisturbed. The interior was still factory clean. The original 10GB hard drive remains in use. It’s quiet and functions as it should. It might have 100 hours use time. For the most part I’ve used a wired USB mouse. As a result the trackpad shows little sign of use. The keyboard is still like new in appearance. The screen is bright and without any flaws. RAM is maxed at 640MB. The optical drive reads/writes CD’s and plays DVD’s. In addition to the original (mint) 45W power adapter I have a spare 65W adapter from a G4 iBook. Both have extension cords. The batteries are from G4 iBooks. Each lasts about an hour+. OS 9.2 and 10.4 are installed. The original OS and software discs were not available when I bought the laptop and I’ve never sought them. There is no Airport Card. I used a USB wifi dongle for couch time and DSL at a desk. I cannot locate the wifi dongle but know they’re available on eBay for between $5 and $10. Finding games and aps for this is not a problem. There are gobs of free abandonware available on the web for downloading. Read about the laptop here: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/specs/ibook_500.html I can provide photo’s upon request. Because there are two AC adapters and an extra battery shipping will require a suitably sized box. I always pack as if I’m the recipient. Asking price is $100 shipped.
