I have for sale my modified 2TB time capsule - this is the flat “mac mini”
shaped one. A while back, it fell victim to the overheated, then failed
internal power supply, so I modified it with an external supply (a spare12 volt
laptop power supply) and an internal 12v-5v transformer to provide the needed
voltages to the power inputs as needed. At the same time, I installed a 2TB
hard drive (was previously 500gb). The power supply is hard wired, so you have
a PC power cable (removable) going to the power supply brick, and the power
cable from the brick hard wired into the Time Capsule, so it’s not as ‘elegant’
as the original power setup, but is certainly more stable. It works perfectly
except for the fact that I destroyed the temperature sensor in removing the
original disk, so, without that sensor, it flashes the amber light all the
time, and AirPort Utility reports a possible overheating situation (which is a
false alarm - this unit will not overheat with the power supply now
externalized) - I just covered the light with a piece of tape to keep it from
annoying me if I saw it out of the corner of my eye. The unit is in excellent
condition. The modifications did no damage. The case and even the bottom rubber
have almost a like new appearance. If you had interest in returning it to it’s
original state, I noticed that lots of internal power supplies are available on
eBay, but I wouldn’t - this one will be more reliable and not be prone to
overheating like the original design was.

I had used this, as configured, for maybe a year. The disk was new when
installed, so it should have lots of life left in it. I have gone to a
different household WiFi setup (non-apple) and standalone attached Time Machine
disk for rolling backups and a RAID NAS as data storage, so this is no longer
needed. Disk erased, and Time Capsule reset to factory - just find it with
AirPort Utility and set it up as your own Time Capsule.

I’m seeing 500gb TC’s going for $20 and up on eBay (stock). I’d let this go for
$30 shipped within the lower 48 states - other shipping options contact me. If
you can get past the “uniqueness” of this device, it looks really good and will
provide good service.

I’d be happy to send a couple photos if you are interested and have concerns
about the appearance.

…thanks for indulging my long-winded description, and thanks for your interest.
