Hi Swappers, I have a 15” MacBook Pro, Mid 2014, up for sale. This is a higher-end model that was my daily driver for several years and I’ve cared for it well. I’m consolidating several machines to a M1 MacBook Air today.
Overall it is in great condition with very little wear or tear. The screen has no de-lamination/“Staingate” issues. I do see some very light keyboard marks if I turn the brightness down and hold it up in a sunny room at an angle, but aside from that the display is excellent. I’ve upgraded the original 500GB SSD to a 1TB Sabrent NVMe SSD with Sintech adapter about a year ago and it’s been running great since Big Sur (fully supports hibernation, etc). I’ve had a Dbrand matte black decal skin on the top and bottom case for a few years now and it’s protected the computer from wear and tear. Highly recommend Dbrand skins. While this model maxes officially at Big Sur, it’s fully supported by OpenCore System Patcher (OCSP) and can run Monterey with a little bit of finagling. Now onto the bad/ugly: the battery isn’t the best. macOS currently says “Service Battery” and the battery has 663 cycles. The laptop does intermittently go to sleep at around 30-40% charge. When it’s plugged in, I have no issues. So if you’re looking for something to use while mostly plugged in, this will work great. I will let the future owner decide whether to replace the battery or not.
