KOL. 1 December 2001. 'High ranking Maoist leaders under trap'; Govt warning to medics.
KATHMANDU -- Royal Nepal Army (RNA) is gradually advancing towards northern areas of mid-western region to take action against the Maoists terrorists, said highly placed source at military headquarters. According to the source, army has been marching towards the northern region of hilly districts like Rolpa, Rukum, Pyuthan and Salyan with an intention of trapping the terrorists. Army sources say that some of the high-ranking Maoists leaders have been trapped in Rolpa. RNA has also lunched several aerial attacks targeting mainly the terrorist camp, said the source. Source also says that RNA has been able to retrieve the looted arms and ammunition from the Maoists. Armymen sized arms from the terrorists in Salyan and Pyuthan districts on Friday, said the source. In the terrorist stronghold districts of the mid-western region, Maoists have lessened their activities due to the massive combing operation by RNA. It is learnt that RNA is trying to get their operation successful as soon as possible. According to army officials, terrorists might change their way strategy. [N.B.] The government Friday warned the medics not to treat the wounded terrorists unless the permission granted by the security authorities. [N.B.] Speaking at a programme organised in the capital, Health Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, said, "The doctors working both in the government hospitals and private health institutions are liable to the government action if they treat the terrorists without getting permission from the security wings."
