NO WAR IN IRAQ

Fight for Alternatives!

U.S. imperialism is continuing its crimes against the peace, openly
discussing various plans to invade Iraq and assassinate its head of state,
Saddam Hussein, including carpet bombing Baghdad in order to do so.
Promotion and planning for aggression is a crime. Defending your country
against aggression is not.

The U.S. model of democracy, where relations are determined on the basis of
Might Makes Right and where the people themselves have no say, is showing
itself to be incapable of solving any problem. War against Iraq in 1991
solved no problem, neither did war against Yugoslavia. War against
Afghanistan has solved nothing, with security inside the U.S. and worldwide
now far worse. What problem will invading Iraq now solve?

The U.S is also seeking to legitimize their planned invasion by meeting with
what it calls the Iraqi opposition. Just as it is promoting as "model
citizens" those who become police informants and spies, the "model Iraqis"
are those who betray their people and country and submit to U.S. dictate.

Such models, representing all that has been condemned by history worldwide,
cannot pass. How can a system based on Might Makes Right - in business, in
international relations, at home - serve the needs of a modern society and
modern world? How can the results be anything other than war and crimes
against humanity?

There are alternatives which the people themselves are putting forward.
There is the alternative of peaceful co-existence and resolving conflicts on
a political basis, using the norms established since World War II, such as
those embodied in the UN Charter, the UN Declaration of Human Rights, the
Geneva Conventions and others. There is the alternative of democratizing the
UN so that the voice of the world can indeed be heard and acted on. There is
the alternative of utilizing the wealth produced by the working class and
people of the U.S. to lend a hand worldwide, to assist in eliminating
poverty and hunger. There is the alternative of social solidarity, standing
as one here and worldwide to together take decisions and defend the rights
of all.

The U.S. is claiming that if it does not invade Iraq, much greater damage
will occur. The peoples are saying that if the U.S. is not stopped, world
war is what is likely. As the Mayor of Hiroshima recently put it, at a
ceremony on the anniversary of the U.S. dropping the atomic bomb, there must
be "no annihilation without representation."

Representation of the interests and needs of the peoples is what is required
in governance today. There is the alternative to fight for representation.
There is the alternative to change the role of the U.S. in the world by
demanding: No U.S. Troops on Foreign Soil! Cancel the Debts! Reparations
Now! There is the alternative of eliminating a system based on violence,
exploitation and oppression and giving rise to a new world of socialized
humanity, a world that is possible!
