YOUNG NATIVE MAN SHOT TO DEATH BY CHUBBUCK [POCATELLO IDAHO AREA] POLICE OFFICER
Felipe Galloway [Shoshone/Bannock], wanted locally on a parole violation, was shot to death on Saturday, December 21 -- and police, thus far, will not indicate whether he was actually armed. Since three days have now passed, it seems unlikely that he was. Chubbuck is essentially a suburb of Pocatello and adjoins the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. Chubbuck police have asked the Pocatello Police Department to "investigate" the situation -- ostensibly objectively [!] -- and the local newspaper, Idaho State Journal, always right there to white-wash lawmen injustices, proclaimed on page 3 today [12/24/02] that "Shooting victim had long criminal history." There were a number of offenses -- far, far indeed from capital ones -- and Felipe Galloway was only 23. This is simply one more event -- obviously one of the most tragic yet -- in the deteriorating racial situation in and around Pocatello, Idaho. There will be much more on all of this. They do this especially when the bright night moon shines down on the clean white snow that covers the valley and its surroundings. Then it is as bright as day -- but in an always soft and mysterious and remembering way.
