Yes, I'd think making your own camera models would be fine, and that
was my first intention -- perhaps I chose the wrong approach, but I
found working with hugin laborious and the results were not stable.

 I agree that converting the Adobe 'published' camera profiles and
redistributing them could be problematic (depending on local copyright
law and Adobe's licence terms), providing code that allows the
end-user to convert the database themselves seems safe to me.

 I'll look at the licence and perhaps post an inquiry on Adobe's ALPC
forum.
