Cameras have become flexible in the sense that you can take RAW
pictures in different formats. There are three kinds of variation:
- the aspect ratio can be changed (4:3, 16:9, 3:2)
- the pixel resolution can be changed ("binning")
- the camera can use a crop mode, e.g. if an APS-C lens is put on
a full-frame camera
The three kinds may be combined. In each case, the crop factor may
be different, and the correct crop factor is what Lensfun needs.
(Aspect ratio is derived from the image.) Lensfun should be able to
infer the correct crop factor by camera model and pixel dimensions.
