That is a very generic statement.

In darktable, it is being done at the right place in pipeline (well,
it should be done a *bit* earlier, before exposure,
but that only matters if you modified the black level slider in
exposure module).
So all and any problems are likely elsewhere - bad lens profiles,
general camera support issues, etc.
