I'd like to offer a $100 prize for the best vim simulation. This would require modes for all plain keys that have more than one continuation.
For example, bindings like the vim 'dd' binding would require a 'd' mode to handle the characters that can follow the initial 'd'. Today I'll write code to create a prompt in the minibuffer based on munged mode names. I'll tell you the munging conventions when the code is complete. This will allow you to create a prompt when Leo enters the 'd' mode that tells what the valid follow-on characters can be. This is important: we want to create "muted" prompts: putting prompts in the log pane is way too jarring. I might be tempted to add more vim-like features, especially support for vim '.', if I knew that people were really using heavy-duty vim bindings.
