No, I am not familiar with the k.number-command functions but, if I understand your post correctly, when I map a number key to a function or a mode, I am unmapping it from the number-command function which causes the key not to issue the <Key-?> keystroke when in Insert mode. I can see this as a problem at the top level key bindings. Is it also a problem if the numeric keys are mapped within a mode?
