As I have just said in another thread, being a clone is not an intrinsic property of a node; it is a property of a node in a particular Leo outline. There is nothing inherently dubious about converting a node to a clone, but it must be done carefully. Don't try to alter a node to be a clone. Instead, clone the desired node, delete the "copied" node, and move the newly-cloned node to the location of the just-deleted node. This can be done safely at a high level.
