Furthermore, Leo may offer something to Simonyi's project. My brain is on fire with ideas stimulated by Simony's ideas: - Leo should have graph and spreadsheet views of nodes. These would cover all the significant possibilities for representing data in two dimensions. - A thought: the "third dimension" of a Leo outline could be called computation, inference, meaning or understanding. That is, a Leo outline shows arbitrarily many *visual* dimensions, but "animating" outlines is a truly new direction/dimension. - Simonyi probably doesn't understand at present how powerful Leo's data model is. It would add something to his projects. - Simonyi's emphasis on "identity" is intriguing. If makes refactoring trivial. I could go on and on. There are major areas of congruence between our thinking. I'll be reading as many papers as I can, starting with http://www.martinfowler.com/articles/languageWorkbench.html I am feeling the same sense of exhilaration, confusion and possibilities that I felt way back in 1995. Simonyi is challenging me to re-vision Leo, and my competitive juices are flowing. My feeling is that Leo outlines and Python may be a better foundation to build on than xml databases and lisp. Having said that, Simonyi has a big head start, and I'll learn much from him.
