I don't understand this in detail.  I do appreciate the effort to
expand the context of the discussion.

I'm not sure this whole discussion really makes sense, as I'll explain
next in a reply to myself.
However, the discussion may have yielded some creative techniques that
will survive the original problem.

Feel free to continue this discussion.  I suspect the only way I'll
understand it is through a series of concrete examples.
