Rev 2350 of the trunk contains the merger of the one-node branch into the
trunk.

At present, the code runs with g.unified_nodes = False, which means that the
code should be functionally identical to what we had to before.

I have carefully checked the diffs to ensure that no unexpected reversion
took place.

All unit tests pass regardless of the value of g.unified_nodes.

Please report anything strange immediately.

A good next step will be to diff the trunk with the 46-maint branch.
Naturally, we expect differences, but we also expect some similarities :-)

My apologies for all this excitement.  It's not at all what I expected.
However, I think we can be fairly sure that the merge has actually gone
well.  Whether the new one-node code actually works is a different matter:
I'll be testing that in the next few days...
