Thanks -- I hadn't realised about the unicode issue. I am now able to
run rst3 successfully on the user guide, which I wasn't before. For
anyone who's on Ubuntu, the file to create with these details is /usr/
local/lib/python2.6/site-packages/sitecustomize.py.
I'm still getting a syntax error on the following line:
print("inclusive parents of %s" % current.h,color="purple")
