I've only loosely been following this, so let me restate this to see
if I got it.

Each leo node's form in a text file is started by a "simple sentinel,"
a comment containing a number of asterisks indicating the level of the
node, along with the node's headline text, instead of gnx's cluttering
up this line, we put in 1 to 3 characters that index into a list of
gnx's stored in single comment line at the end of the file.

Is that it?
