I, too, find the number of "open" options to be confusing and not
intuitive for what I want to do. When I wanted to try out importing
an .ini file, I started first with File->Import->Import Derived File.
It didn't seem like any of the other import options were what I
wanted, so I next tried File->Open. That brought the file to the body
text pane, but didn't create nodes. I didn't even think to try any of
the File->Read/Write options. I went back to File->Import with the
intent to try all of them, and of course, luckily, the second one on
the list ("Import To @file") was the one that worked.

1. Could one way to shorten the 19 choices be to have File->Open use
logic based on the file extension, and perhaps scan the first few
lines of the file if the extension isn't "known" to Leo? Then if it
can't determine what the user wants to do, the user could be presented
with a dialog window describing the different open/read/import options
available, with a brief explanation of each one? Perhaps 18 of the
choices could be moved to some sort of "Advanced Open" choice, in case
the user knows what they want, or when Leo guesses incorrectly using
File->Open and the user has no choice but to use the proper open/
import/read function.

2. When I choose File->Open With-> no options are displayed. Are there
supposed to be? If not, could Open With just be disabled (dimmed), or
removed entirely, when there aren't any options?

3. For my info, is leoImport.py responsible for all/only the File-
>Import choices?
