Hmm, I tried (just now) installing lxml for Python 2.7, which is what I have on my Win 7 here (virtualbox :-). But didn't succeed with lxml==2.2.2. Will try other random numbers, but not impressed with lxml Windows install. If I can get that working I'll try and clean up some of the other stuff you pointed out.
