As to your actual question :-) I don't know, but I doubt leo fiddles with rst at that level before passing it to doctools, so I'd be surprised if there was an existing mechanism to do what you want. You could always insert a hook to translate // to * before parsing, but it would have to be careful to avoid things like http://something.
