This is a known issue. Please use --gui=qt, not --gui=qttabs.

This also indicates that the documentation has not made the situation
sufficiently clear.
Again, I *really* think that you should seriously consider adding a hack
to enable --gui=qt on Macs, because otherwise a lot of people are going
to get bitten by this, and since it is frustrating to have Leo just stop
working for no apparent reason many of them might just give up on it
entirely. I know that you don't like hacks like this, but I think that
the alternative of having Leo simply be broken on Macs by default is worse.
