I agree with you and Terry: generally speaking the Ubuntu
install/upgrade goes smoothly.  The same can usually be said about
Windows 7, in my experience.

However, the transition to Ubuntu unity was a step backward.  I don't
know what happened, but my wireless networking broke.

And here is where Ubuntu is wretched: it seems literally impossible to
navigate through all the techy instructions:  there are too many
choices and way too little confidence that I am choosing the right
path.

In short, when Ubuntu works, it could be said to work better than
Windows 7, but when there are problems it it, imo, quite literally
impossible to fix.

Just my opinion.  I'm willing to believe your experience is quite
different, and much more pleasant.  My problem may be related to a
"foreign" driver, and so relatively uncommon.  But 10.10 downloaded
and installed the driver properly, 11.04 did not, leaving me helpless.
That's all I am saying.
