It's likely not apparent, but I think of myself as being in a sort of
extended release mode. That is, I'm focused on removing bugs and
adding features that must exist for the next release, and so on.

But the emphasis probably should be on the word "extended", not
"release" :-) That is, I don't feel any urgency about schedule. I
suspect 4.9.1 b1 will happen in November at the earliest. If much
later than that, it will probably move to 1Q 2012 because I'll be
spending most of December in Florida. I'll only have a Ubuntu laptop
there.

The recently-added calls to w.see have broken (once again) the
reformat-paragraph command. This is incredibly annoying. Perhaps
removing a single call will help, but it might be unfixable without re-
breaking Viktor's long-body-text-scrolling bug. If so, I think it
will be time to create a debugging build of Qt (probably on Ubuntu)
and find out, at the C-language level, exactly what in blazes is going
on :-)

As another extension, I want to get the IPython bridge working with
the latest version of IPython. It would be nice if this would be a
straightforward conversion to the new IPython code base, but we shall
see...

You gotta love this stuff. Happily, I do.
