I now see that Delete in context menu can delete multiple selected nodes. Selection is not via Marked but by a Ctl-Right Click of Mouse that creates blue shading bar to denote selection.
I assume this selection is not a modification on node properties as deleting a selected clone does not delete non selected clones. Almost what I want to be able to do, at last for the delete group of nodes function, but it is hard to be precise with the mouse selection.
