The "lighter/heavier" distinction/metaphor seems like the best in which to evaluate design. Think the one-touch movie camera, or the iPhone. There can be plenty of features in the background (like Leo's commands), but the essential question is how things *feel* in the foreground. Edward P.S. SciTe is good, but not *that* good.
