I'm probably getting a bad reputation for doing things that just
should not be done. For example, since in a "settings" file (i.e.,
leoSettings.leo or myLeoSettings.leo) the structure is:

@settings
      @buttons
              @button foobar something

I used this same structure in an ordinary outline file. Everything
worked fine so far as I could tell---except I had two buttons for
every @button node. This puzzled me for awhile. Eventually I
realized that I should not have a @settings node in an ordinary
outline. Apparently, the "settings" scan creates the first button,
and the "buttons" scan creates the second button.

Is this just a "don't do" or is there something to "fix"?
