If you open .../leo/core/LeoPyRef.leo and do Outline -> Expand All, then scroll down to find a deeply nested node with a couple of children and open and close it, there's a noticeable delay there. Noticeable, but not too bad, at least on this reasonably recent machine. But more to the point, the delay's only there when you have everything expanded - with everything except the node of interest collapsed there's no delay - so it seems unlikely to be a major problem in everyday use.
