The ads can be disabled. My blog uses Disqus, and I had to disable them
manually. Go to Settings -> Discovery, and choose either "Increased
Traffic" so that the ads are specifically targeting our blog (i.e., they
will be links to "similar" articles), or to "Just Comments" to turn them
off completely.
