Hi Edward,

Last week I had high hopes for the setup.py generated installer
approach, it looked like it was going to solve several things at once.

This week I am in "a maze of twisty little passages, all alike", and
thoroughly disenchanted and disgusted with the state of (my
understanding of) python app/package management. (Distutils,
distribute & setuptools: the names of the heads of the dog guarding
the exit (entrance?) to the underworld).

I'm going to give one more serious push in the next 2-3 days and
before giving up and focusing on things like the registering filetypes
script for people who are using the nightlies or portable archive
version.

So, if the wind doesn't fill my sails this weekend, yes the NSIS
installer is the way to go. I'll likely post specifics of what I'm
struggling with as I wend my way.
