The other thing to try, after Ctrl-B running the code, instead of Alt-X rich-text-open, right click the dividers between the panes in the Leo display, the dividers you can slide back and forth to make the node list wider or narrower etc. When you right click the right one you'll see a context menu starting with "Insert", and a bunch of other options. Chose insert and a new blank pane with a big "Action" button should appear. Click that, and, if it's there, click the "Rich text editor" item.
