In the swirl of dealing with bugs I hadn't realized that just adding @others was a workaround. To repeat, changing format of private @shadow files would cause major compatibility problems during the changeover from version 4 format to version 5 format. Indeed, users of @shadow might lose their outline structure. I would *really* rather not get bogged down in that. In short, I am going to demote this bug to low priority, with an explanation of the workaround both in the bug report and in the documentation for @shadow.
