This is what happened to you. The three step process (in leoVersion.py) would only be useful if each nightly build ran bzr version_info > bzr_version_info.py. The likelihood of that happening is small, the benefits even smaller. In short, the bzr_version stuff just causes complications and problems. It will be gone today.
