I just tried, successfully, Python 3.3.5, qt version 4.8.5 Windows 6, 1, 7601, 2, Service Pack 1 (that's Win 7 64bit) If you could try that combo changing only the Win 7 -> Win 8 part, that would be interesting, if it showed a Win 7 / Win 8 distinction. Python 3.4 isn't available from Riverbank (PyQt) currently, you were building from source?
